Photovoice Data with DCU CSN School (Research)

What is Photovoice?

•Photovoice is a community-based participatory action research (PAR) method that provides a voice to marginalised groups, usually excluded from the political arena (Liebenberg, 2018; Sutton-Brown, 2014).

•It is a promising data collection method for doing research with children and young people (Harmon, 2021; Liebenberg, 2018; Rasmussen, 2014).

•It can be used to enhance students’ learning by making them visually and personally think about the given topic (Sprague et al., 2021).  

•It offers an alternative approach to exploring students’ voices through photography in a school setting, and broader social inequalities   (Harmon, 2021; Oyarzun – Gomez & Loaiza de la Pava, 2020).
