Scoil Íosagáin
Scoil Íosagáin is a large primary school with 10 classes for children with additional needs. Located on the shores of Lough Swilly in Buncrana, Inishowen Co. Donegal the school is one of the largest in the Network. Scoil Íosagáin is proud to have opened the first class in a mainstream primary school in Ireland for children with Severe and Profound General Learning Disabilities. Inclusion is at the centre of their school philosophy, and their mission is to help their children learn together, play together, and grow together in a school environment that embraces inclusion and celebrates difference.
Student agency and voice is key in this school with a student council, a Circle of Friends programme to resolve conflict as well as daily ‘brain and gratitude breaks and mutual mentoring. The school runs the Roots of Empathy programme as well as engages in Restorative Practices.
Creativity is a central pillar in this school with involvement in BLAST, Creative Schools, Creative Clusters, and music therapy. The school has developed a Resilience Padlet in the school to support the wellbeing of their students.
