Loop for Students

Loop is DCU’s Online Teaching Environment which provides staff and students with access to electronic teaching and learning materials (such as lecture notes and links to useful websites) and activities (such as discussion forums, group assignments, reflective journals and quizzes).

The way that Loop is used in DCU varies from module to module: in some cases, Loop resources and activities may be additional supplements to lectures and tutorials; in others, Loop activities may be fully integrated into your coursework.

Features of DCU LOOP include:
  • Download lecture notes
  • Assignment submission and grading
  • Discussion forum
  • Online quiz
  • And many more
Logging into Loop
  1. Open your web browser and go to loop.dcu.ie (We recommend Google Chrome)
  2. In the login area, enter your DCU email address and password and authenticate via your MFA app

After you log in you will see your Loop Dashboard and the "Course overview" block in the centre of your dashboard will display all the modules you have access to. Use the filter to choose to view "All" courses and not just those "In progress", "Future", "Past" and so on. Also ensure you are viewing “All” courses on screen and not just 12 or 24.

Why can’t I see the modules that I registered for?

There may be several reasons why modules which you have registered for don’t yet appear on your Loop Dashboard.

  1. Wait 24-48 hours after you fully complete registration, as it can take some time for your enrolment information to flow from the registration system to Loop
  2. Check the filters on your Course overview block on your Loop Dashboard to make sure you are viewing all your courses, and if you have lots of them, take care to look through the list to find the module(s) you are looking for
  3. Your lecturer may have chosen to temporarily hide a Loop course from the class whilst they prepare their materials. Contact your lecturer to ascertain if the course is hidden or not or when it might become visible on your dashboard
  4. If after all this you still have issues accessing a Loop course, speak to your lecturer for further advice
