Academic biography
Dr Veronica Barry is an Assistant Professor in modern European history. Her research examines the interwar and Second World War periods, with a particular focus on the topics of soft diplomacy, neutrality, propaganda, women’s transnational networks and fascism.
She completed a PhD at Maynooth University, where she also graduated with an MA in European history and a Bachelor of Arts degree.
In 2022, she held a research fellowship at the German Historical Institute, Washington DC. Her research has been funded by national and international bodies, including the Irish Research Council, the Women’s History Association of Ireland and the German Historical Institute.
Outside of her primary research area, she has worked with the Centre for the Study of Historic Irish Houses and Estates, Maynooth University, and the Heritage Council. She has also worked with the Irish Manuscripts Commission.
In 2024, she co-founded the All-Island Trauma-Informed Research Network. In 2022, she joined the national committee of the Irish History Students’ Association and currently serves as its representative to the Irish Committee of Historical Sciences. She also founded the association’s official podcast of which she is currently editor.
