Research interests
Hamid is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary researcher with a background in engineering, social science, and data science. His focus is on sustainable development and global challenges, i.e., spatial, socioeconomic, environmental inequalities, climate change, environmental degradation and pollution, and especially spatial footprints of these universal challenges. He targeted (spatial) policies, processes, and patterns to significantly impact academia and beyond, including policy designers and decision-makers. His research area is different and diverse, including sustainable smart cities, remote sensing and GIS applications, spatial composite indicators, housing, gentrification, spatial inequality, spatial data analytics, big data research applications, spatial demography, natural hazards, and social, environmental and health vulnerabilities. He published many research articles in top-tier journals, including Habitat International, Cities, Environmental Management, Applied Geography, Spatial Information Science, Geographical Analysis, International Journal of Digital Earth, and several book chapters and conference papers. He also serves as editor and member of the board of academic journals in environmental studies, urban planning, social science, and computer science. In addition, he secured several research funding and grants, such as the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship.
