Dr Juliana Adelman Publishes New Book
Juliana Adelman’s first novel, The Grateful Water, was launched at Hodges Figgis on Thursday, 16 May. Published by New Island Books, The Grateful Water is historical crime fiction. Set in Dublin in the hot summer of 1866, it follows Detective Martin Peakin as he investigates the death of a child.
Informed by her work as historian of nineteenth-century Dublin, the novel has been praised for the manner in which it ‘evokes the squalor and grandeur’ of that city, while it has been described as ‘twisty, thrilling and visceral.’
The launch was a wonderful occasion and among those there to celebrate with Juliana were many of her colleagues from DCU, particularly from the School of History and Geography and the School of English.
