FETRC Jean Monet Network Project - Populism and Its Impact on Young People - A Comparative European Snapshot
John Lalor & Justin Rami for FETRC are engaged in a 3 year research project supported by European Commission’s Jean Monet Programme entitled CiTEdEv as part of the CiCeA Erasmus Network.
The research aims to explores the context, curriculum and teaching methodologies related to addressing issues associated with the rise of populism in Ireland and Europe and explores the implications of populism for young people and how it informs their understanding of values.
This work is significant for Ireland and the FET sector as well as the curriculum paths from Primary & post Primary Schools in the State.
The concept of Populism has been identified as a challenge to democracy, tolerance, and European values (Bugaric, 2020). The Pan-European team presented some of their ongoing work at this years European Educational Research Conference (ECER- EERA) in Glasgow and at Educational Studies Association Ireland’s (ESAI) Easter Conference in Belfast.
The research continues until 2024 and the outputs will help the team design tool-kits and case-books for educators working in the sectors in Ireland and Europe.
