FETRC invited to present at Ontarios ONCAT conference 2017
FETRC were invited in May of 2017 to present their research related to transfer, access and progression from FET to HE in Ireland as part of the Canadian ONCAT Student Pathways in Higher Education Conference,
The conference was held May 1-2, 2017, at the Toronto Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre Hotel, Canada. Justin Rami for FETRC braved the new technologies to beam-in live with his talk and presentation. Established in 2011, ONCAT is a not-for-profit funded entirely by the provincial government and created to enhance academic pathways and reduce barriers for students looking to transfer among Ontario's 45 publicly assisted colleges and universities. As a member organization, we work with all of those institutions to develop transfer credit policies and practices to ease student mobility. As part of that, we manage a student-facing website, ONTransfer.ca, where students can input their courses and transcripts, and determine what institutions will accept their credits. The annual conference is a key event for ONCAT, its membership and stakeholders, including the Presidents, Provosts, Vice-President Academics, and Registrars of all the colleges and universities. The conference brings together credit transfer professionals, many of whom represent the 45 institutions, and provides them with the opportunity to share credit transfer and student support initiatives, explore new partnerships, and learn about emerging directions on transfer and mobility. Last year, more than 300 participants attended some 30 seminars delivered by experts from across North America. ONCAT invited FETRC to offer the Irish perspective on barriers and challenges to progression.
