DCU’s BSc in Education and Training (Flexible Learning Mode) is now recognised as a fulltime programme of study thus allowing students to avail of the State Free Fees Scheme. The programme is delivered mainly on campus during the evenings and weekends though there is also a range of synchronous and asynchronous online teaching and learning modes.
If you would like to work in the field of Education and Training and you are looking to develop your knowledge, skills and professional approach then this Teaching Council Accredited degree is everything you need. The course is also designed for those who may be working or wish to work in a range of training and/or educational settings including SOLAS supported programmes, public or private training sectors, HRD, or as training and/or education managers. Graduates are now working in a diverse range of training and educational settings and roles as trainers, tutors, facilitator and managers within the vocational, adult, further/continuing education, and community fields, as well as in business and industry as training experts. The focus of the programme is on the applied nature of teaching, training and learning. Work-based practice is core to each year of the programme.
The programme now also has an additional stream for those who wish to work specifically as teachers in the area of Further Education. This additional strand, comprising of teaching placement and professional development, will enable students to register with the Teaching Council of Ireland as Further Education teachers upon graduation. Past graduates have secured employment in a broad range of training and educational areas and employers include: Aer Lingus, Hertz, Ebay-Paypal, Google, Xerox as well as FAS (SOLAS), CDVEC (CDETB), CODUBVEC (DDLETB), CDU, NRB, FE Colleges, private colleges and training organizations as well many Community and Adult education organisations.
The programme is delivered over two semesters per year for 3 or 4 years during evening and some weekends. Subjects covered within the degree include:

Students wishing to complete the Further Education strand must secure 100 hours of recognised Teaching Placement in appropriately accredited programmes such as FETAC or equivalent.

Applicants Presenting EU School Leaving Examinations Apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO) up to 1st May
Mature Applicants (23 yrs+)
*2014 Entry - Extended Closing Date for Mature Applicants for DC242*. 1st of May 2014. Students may apply through the CAO and submit a Mature Supplementary Application form to DCU, to be received no later than 5 p.m. on the 1st of May 2014.

Please note that although the form indicates the normal closing date for receipt of forms is the 1st of February 2014, DC242 applicants who apply through the CAO and submit a supplementary form to DCU up to the 1st of May deadline will be processed. Mature applications received after that date will not be processed. As there is an interview as part of the mature entry process, mature students cannot avail of the CAO change of mind facility.
Non-EU Candidates Presenting Non-EU school Leaving Qualifications
Candidates should apply directly to DCU. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis up to the 1st July. All non-EU candidates are advised to apply early as places are limited. Candidates required to apply directly to DCU can download, print and complete a direct application form. All applicants for this programme will be invited to interview.
