Autism Summer Programme 2024

Welcome to Autism Summer Programme at Dublin City University

About Autism Summer Programme:

The Autism Summer Programme at Dublin City University (DCU) organised by the Disability and Learning Support Service in collaboration with Autism friendly University is a programme designed to provide a supportive and inclusive learning experience for autistic 5th and 6th year school students. This three day programme aims to bridge the gap between secondary education and higher education by preparing students for the academic, social, and practical aspects of university life. With a focus on understanding the university experience, we empower students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and confidence to navigate their future educational journey successfully.

Programme Highlights:

Academic preparedness : Programme is designed to provide students skills and strategies for learning to excel in higher education to enhance their academic readiness and foster a love for learning.

Social Skills Development : Development of social skills and fostering meaningful connections by focusing on communication, collaboration, conflict resolution and self-advocacy skills to thrive in the diverse social context of university life.

Independent Living Skills : Our programme provides information on essential life skills that help in transitioning to university, often requiring independent living and taking responsibility for various aspects of daily life at the university.

Accessing Support Services : Comprehensive information about the support services available on university campuses like disability support, counselling, tutoring, and other assistance programmes to ensure they have the necessary tools and knowledge to seek and utilize support systems effectively.

Campus Exploration : Our programme offers students the opportunity to explore the Dublin City University campus and become familiar with its facilities, resources, and services. Campus tours, visits to libraries, laboratories, canteen, and interactions with university staff and students help students develop a sense of belonging and familiarity with the university environment.
