The History in Your Hands Project
The History in Your Hands project aims to teach students from three local secondary schools how to plan, research and write their research study report as part of Leaving Certificate History. Eilís O’Neill, Celine Campbell and Killian Downing from DCU Library and Hayley Brabazon from the DCU Writing Centre deliver five classes to each school group between October and February. During the project, the students learn how to locate and evaluate sources, organise and condense the information they find and write an academic essay.
In April the students submit a report to the project team and the students’ achievements are celebrated at an awards ceremony in May.
The project teaches the students critical thinking, research, and collaboration skills. It introduces them to DCU’s academic campuses while supplying them with the skills and confidence they need to begin their journey to third level education.
