DCU invites applications for a new interdisciplinary masters programme in Music, Sound, Culture & Media (DC400).  Applications are open now to begin September 2024.

Bringing together expertise in Music and Communications across two Schools in the Faculty of Humanities, this programme is designed for students who are curious about, and eager to engage in, interdisciplinary fields in sonic media  and creative studies and practices. The programme includes options for creative practice alongside critical, interpretive, analytical and reflective components.  It is particularly suited to creative practitioners who wish to deepen their expertise through a period of reflective study and extend and credentialise their practice. It is equally suited to aspiring professionals in cultural policy and community development as well as, creative leadership in music production, sonic arts, audio-visual production and screen industries.

The programme provides clear pathways for those students with long-term objectives to pursue studies to doctoral level and beyond, in such areas as musicology, film music, sound design, ethnomusicology and a range of media studies and communications areas.

The programme is designed so students can learn from each other’s diverse background and disciplines.  A particular feature is participation by both international and Ireland based students with a term-time hybrid format and an in-person summer school on the DCU All Hallows Campus.
