City of Derry International Choral Festival
Laetare Vocal Ensemble recently participated in the prestigious City of Derry International Choir Festival. The choir, which is based in Dublin City Centre, is conducted by Dr Róisín Blunnie of the School of Theology, Philosophy, and Music. Laetare was awarded third place overall, with Cór CF1 from Wales winning the top prize, and UIS University Choir from Colombia in second place. Laetare also received the Contemporary Music Centre Award for the performance of a work by an Irish composer, for The Destroyer, by Róisín's DCU colleague Dr Seán Doherty. This is the second year in a row that Laetare have received this award, winning last year with their performance of The Old Woman by fellow DCU composer Dr Rhona Clarke.
