IRC research awards for the School
The School of Theology, Philosophy, and Music is happy to announce that two of our faculty have recently been awarded research grants from the Irish Research Council as part of the IRC’s New Foundations scheme.
Dr Garrick Allen received an award for a project entitled Herman Charles Hoskier and the Future of the Bible. This project systematically examines the state of the field of New Testament textual scholarship and attempts to chart a course for future research, including textual criticism in a digital age. Dr Allen is organising a series of public lectures on “the Bible in Ireland” in collaboration with the Chester Beatty Library (dates TBC), and the project is also sponsoring a conference 28-30 August 2017, to be held at Dublin City University. More information can be found at the project blog or by following @hchoskier on twitter.
Dr Brad Anderson’s award is for a project entitled From Scrolls to Scrolling: Sacred Texts, Materiality, and Changing Media Cultures, which examines issues relating to the physical features of texts and the transmission of sacred texts in changing media cultures. This project creates knowledge exchange networks through collaboration with the Chester Beatty Library and the University of Heidelberg’s Material Text Cultures Collaborative Research Centre. A symposium on the topic will be held at Dublin City University in September 2017.
