Subject Leadership in Mathematics Poster Exhibition
On Wednesday 12th of December, 2018, the Subject Leadership in Mathematics Poster Exhibition was opened. The exhibition, located in the DCU Cregan Library, showcases works produced by BEd Primary Student Teachers who chosen to specialise in Mathematics and worked with their non-mathematics specialist peers on this project.
Collaboration is a key focus of the module on subject leadership in mathematics which is exemplified in its development over a two year period involving staff in Mathematics Education from the School of STEM Education, Innovation and Global Studies (Thérèse Dooley, Paul Grimes, Lorraine Harbison, Fionnán Howard, Siún Nic Mhuirí, Maurice OReilly, Miriam Ryan and Aisling Twohill) together with colleagues from the School of Mathematical Sciences (Sinéad Breen & Brien Nolan). The creation of the posters required collaboration at the student level also. Other contributors were April Cronin, Christian Mercat (Lyon) & Mark Saul (New York). The international dimension to the module included not only France and the USA but also visitors from de Kempel Hoogeschool, Helmond, the Netherlands: 14 students led by their lecturers, Mark Sanders & Janneke Rutten.
The posters exhibited, represented the work of 9 students condensed into the three posters that form this exhibition.
The titles are:
- ‘Group work?’ ‘No problem!’: Teaching mathematical problem solving through collaborative group work, by Orla Coleman, Daniel Hernon & Sarah Shannon
- Mathematical Identity, by David Barry, Aoife Corkery & Michael McCormack
