Academic biography

Siún Nic Mhuirí is a lecturer in the Institute of Education, St. Patrick’s campus, where she specialises in Mathematics Education. She completed her Masters degree in mathematics at NUI, Galway before obtaining her PGCE at the University of Exeter, UK. The majority of her primary teaching experience was in designated disadvantaged schools and she has worked with the Maths Recovery and Ready, Set, Go - Maths programmes. She completed her PhD under the supervision of Dr Dolores Corcoran in St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra. This research was centred on a teaching experiment she carried out at fifth class level and was titled ‘Does it go without saying? Mathematical Thinking in Whole Class Discourse’

Research interests

Mathematics classroom practices; Dialogic teaching and the role of talk in mathematical thinking and problem solving; Teacher research and reflective practice; Mathematics teacher education, Mathematics Teacher Efficacy.
