Research Newsletter - Issue 101: Information and Updates
Please click on the headings below for further detail:
A new section has recently been added to the Research Ethics webpage entitled Useful Resources for Applying to REC to support the DCU research community. The section contains three parts.
The first part, entitled REC Application Form, Amendment Form and Templates, contains the most updated versions of the REC forms and templates which should be used when applying for ethics review.
The second part, entitled Video Guidance on how to complete the REC Application form, has three short videos explaining how to fill in each section of the REC application form correctly.
The third part, entitled REC Guidance for Research Supervisors and Mentors, contains a brief video explaining key issues that research supervisors and mentors should consider when reviewing and signing off a REC application form before submission.
DCU REC strongly recommends the use of these resources by the DCU research community to improve the quality of research ethics applications and so, to speed up the turnaround time for ethics approval.
Any feedback on these resources can be sent to catherine.dean@dcu.ie.
The European Commission has launched a survey to hear your views on the grant award process for European programmes. The Commission wants to know how it can simplify this process, and everyone's opinion is valuable, even if you have never applied for a grant before. Find the survey here.
The DCU Open Research Statement, approved by the University Research Committee, is now available online and is a public commitment by the university to support and foster open research practices.
Open Research aims to increase openness, transparency and reproducibility across all parts of the research lifecycle. The commitments within the statement intend to embed open research practices across all disciplines and domains. They are:
- Training and development of our staff and students across all disciplines in open research practices
- Promoting open research through the reward and recognition of best practice
- Improving the discoverability and external engagement with our open research outputs
- Engaging with external stakeholders to promote open research practices globally
- Supporting open research infrastructure, systems, and processes to ensure the long-term sustainability of open research materials
In DCU, the Open Research Steering Group is leading the University's implementation of the NORF Action Plan 2022-2030 and working more broadly to foster a culture of openness in all aspects of DCU research.
The breadth of areas that fall under Open Research is extensive. To prioritise actions, objectives are grouped under thematic areas of open access, fair, data & infrastructure, incentives & rewards, training & communication and overall leadership & governance.
