The University's role in the discovery and transmission of knowledge, and the provision of public service creates an environment which is highly conducive to the conception and development of many forms of intellectual property. There is always the possibility that such developments may have commercial value Dublin City University is committed to where such opportunities exists to exploit them to the benefit of the Irish economy, the inventors, collaborative partners and the university. However, the contractual principles of academic freedom and the tradition of free and open discussion of research must also be maintained.
It is the purpose, here, to provide information for University staff, researchers and students relevant documentation and information to support in the development, capture and exploitation of intellectual property.
The DCU INVENT is responsible for the exploitation of research and knowledge developed at DCU. The OVPR works closely with INVENT to insure seamless management of research knowledge at DCU from project proposal to intellectual property exploitation.
