Our People Profiles | Mayra Dunne

Mayra’s career in HR management is highlighted by a series of accomplishments and awards demonstrating her dedication to creating an enjoyable work atmosphere. Hailing from Mexico, with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from BUAP, Mayra worked as an engineer at Federal Mogul in her hometown. The role allowed her to focus on one of her passions: project management.  She started her career in HR within the retail sector as People Support and was quickly promoted to a Generalist role, where she gained valuable experience in talent acquisition, employee relations, and workforce management. She joined the DCU People team, which gave her an opportunity to leverage her experience in a more structured and academic environment. 

Mayra has a multifaceted role on the DCU People team, encompassing a diverse array of responsibilities aimed at optimising people operations and enhancing employee experiences. Leveraging her analytical acumen honed through her engineering background, Mayra analyses HR data to identify trends and insights, thereby facilitating informed decision-making and strategic planning. At DCU, she has been able to engage in strategic planning, faculty/school recruitment, and the development of policies that support educational goals. This shift has allowed Mayra to have a deeper focus on employee development, diversity initiatives, and the cultivation of a positive organisational culture. 

Mayra’s expertise in recruiting talent serves as proof of her ability to identify and nurture potential. Through hiring techniques and insightful candidate assessments, she has enhanced the DCU team with individuals who not only have the necessary skills but also share the institution's values and goals. Her contributions to DCU extend beyond her daily duties, as evidenced by her proactive involvement in initiatives aimed at promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the institution. Her advocacy for underrepresented groups and her dedication to fostering a culture of belonging have earned her recognition and admiration from colleagues and superiors alike.
