About

 

The Race Equality Working Group was established in June, 2024 to prepare a comprehensive action plan to support our commitments and align with principles outlined by HEA for Higher Education Institutes and Athena Swan action plan. Through the Race Equality Working Group, DCU commits to work collaboratively with students and staff to create an inclusive environment in the campus where people from all backgrounds can reach their full potential. The role of the DCU Race Equality Working Group is to help ensure that the University undertakes its work to embed race equality in a manner that is representative of the needs of staff and students as well as reflective of the national Anti-Racism Principles.

This working group is currently developing a Race Equality Action Plan to guide the university's efforts in fostering an inclusive and diverse working environment.

Objectives

  • Engage with students and staff to gain a more in-depth understanding of peoples’ perspectives and lived experiences concerning race/ethnicity in DCU. 

     

  • Review existing DCU policies and practices related to race equality and identify areas for improvement.

     

  • Develop a comprehensive Institutional Race Equality Action plan that aligns with HEA Anti-Racism Principles and Athena Swan Action plan to eliminate barriers and enhance equality.

     

  • Promote awareness and understanding of race equality issues within the university community which may include awareness raising programmes, trainings, webinars, etc.

     

  • Monitor the progress of race equality initiatives and report on their effectiveness.
