What is wellbeing?
Well-being is the experience of health, happiness and prosperity. It includes having good mental health, high life satisfaction, a sense of meaning or purpose, and the ability to manage stress. Wellbeing is an ongoing process as it can fluctuate depending on where we are in our lives at any given time.
The DCU Wellbeing Strategy aims to promote a positive employee experience by creating a work environment where every employee feels supported and can thrive and can feel comfortable reaching out no matter what issues they may be facing in life.
Our wellbeing objectives
To support employee wellbeing, we will:
- Create a workplace culture that ensures and promotes the health, safety and physical, mental, social and emotional wellbeing of all staff
- Put staff health and wellbeing at the core of our policies and operational practices
- Offer health and wellbeing resources, tools and supports
- Empower staff to have conversations around mental health and wellbeing, and recognise and support those who need our help
- Cultivate an environment where everyone has a voice, can flourish, feels valued and feels they belong
- Collaborate with colleagues in Student Support to promote mental health and wellbeing
- Share our learnings and insights.
Measuring success
While research shows measuring wellbeing progress is a challenge, we’ll aim to track our growth with:
- Surveys and pulse surveys to assess staff wellbeing and engagement
- Launch new interventions, supports and facilities
- Assess the uptake of new and existing wellbeing supports
- Participation on learning and development programmes
- Develop an action plan.
