Tom Burke

For his PhD, documentary maker Tom Burke turned the camera on his fellow filmmakers to explore the ethical dilemmas involved in the relationship between the interviewer and interviewee.

“What are the rules here?” For years, this was the question that preoccupied documentary maker Tom Burke - a question that ultimately led to his PhD film about the relationship between filmmakers and their subjects.

Niamh Walsh

For Niamh Walsh, the decision to pursue a nursing degree started at home. There wasn’t a strong nursing tradition in the family, but she always admired the way her mother and grandmother took care of others, especially when they were sick.

Eight years ago, Niamh’s mother became seriously ill herself. Following a successful recovery from surgery, her mother was full of praise for the extraordinary care and reassurance she received from the nursing staff.

The experience made Niamh think, “I want to be that for people.”

Sarraj Alsersawi

Sarraj Alsersawi is rightly proud of coming top of his class in Dublin City University’s MSc of Electronic and Computer Technology (Internet of Things). What is more remarkable is that the Palestinian student achieved this while the war in Gaza claimed the lives of many of his friends and threatened his family’s safety on a daily basis.

“It was a very challenging period, to be honest,” reflects Sarraj.
