Catherine Faherty successfully defends PhD thesis
Catherine Faherty, PhD scholar with DCU Centre for Family Business, successfully defended her PhD thesis this summer. The oral examination, known as the viva voce, took place on July 2nd at DCU Business School. Catherine's examiners were Professor James H. Davis of Utah State University and Professor Finian Buckley of DCU Business School. Her chairperson, Dr Yseult Freeney, and supervisor, Dr Eric Clinton, were also present for the examination.
Catherine’s research focuses on trust dynamics in family firms. Specifically, her PhD work examined the joint effects of trusting in, and feeling trusted by, leaders of family firms and the impact on important employee and organisational outcomes. Commenting on her success, Catherine remarked:
“It’s an amazing feeling to have finally reached this stage; I am absolutely thrilled. Thanks to my incredible team, including family, friends, and academic mentors for their unwavering support, which undoubtedly got me through.”
Catherine Faherty is a recipient of the prestigious Irish Research Council Enterprise Partnership Scheme Scholarship. Her PhD research was co-funded by the Irish Research Council and the DCU Ryan Academy.
