The university saw its teaching and research reputations rise in the 2023 rankings
DCU has been ranked among the top 500 universities in the world in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
The university’s teaching, research, citation impact and international impact scores all rose in the 2023 rankings.
This follows on from DCU being placed 113th in the THE Young University Rankings and among the top 10 universities in the world for its impact in reducing inequality.
Speaking about today’s announcement by THE, Prof Daire Keogh, President of Dublin City University, said:
“DCU’s continuing rise in the global rankings is greatly encouraging and a welcome affirmation of the University’s impact through education, research and positive engagement with our stakeholders. Our progress is thanks to the incredible dedication of DCU staff, whose passion and hard work delivers on the University’s mission to ‘transform lives and societies’.”
Prof John Doyle, Vice President for Research, said
“This improvement in DCU’s global ranking by Times Higher Education is testament to the significant efforts of staff right through the Covid pandemic, to both provide students with the best teaching experience, permitted by the restrictions, and also to expand DCU’s contribution to research.
From the future of Education, to cutting edge research on Climate Change, science and technology, Sports, from Politics and Media through to Theology and Life Sciences, DCU’s reputation for research with social and economic impact is now impacting internationally.”
About the Times Higher Education World University Rankings
Times Higher Education has been providing trusted performance data on universities for students and their families, academics, university leaders, governments and industry, since 2004. They create university rankings to assess university performance on the global stage and to provide a resource for readers to understand the different missions and successes of higher education institutions.
Their rankings cover the three main areas of university activity: research, impact and teaching.
The World University Rankings provide one of the leading lists of the world’s best universities, with an emphasis on the research mission. It is the only global university league table to judge research-intensive universities across all of their core missions: teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income and reputation); citations (research influence); industry income (knowledge transfer) and international outlook (staff, students and research). It uses thirteen carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons. The overall list is accompanied by eleven subject-specific rankings.
