Academic biography
Christy Ann Petit is an Assistant Professor at the School of Law and Government of Dublin City University (DCU) and Deputy Director of the DCU Brexit Institute. She previously held the position of Research Associate at the Florence School of Banking & Finance at the European University Institute (EUI) where she contributed to executive education and organized high-level policy events for policymakers, professionals and academics in the fields of banking and finance.
Her primary research interests lie at the intersection of EU Law, financial regulation, and economic governance with a particular focus on financial supervision, the Banking Union, the Economic and Monetary Union, and the Next Generation EU frameworks. Christy's most recent works explored the Banking Union case law, the legal framework of the digital euro and Anti-Money Laundering enforcement. She has conducted academic and policy research in other areas, including with a multidisciplinary approach, such as: regulatory divergence and cooperation in financial services after Brexit, regulatory cooperation on carbon pricing, the accountability of EU industrial policy, and, post-pandemic economic governance in the EU.
She holds a Ph.D. in Law from the European University Institute (EUI) where she defended her doctoral thesis on ‘An integrated system for banking supervision in the Banking Union’. She graduated from the prestigious Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) in France, specialising in a multidisciplinary curriculum that integrated law, economics, and business perspectives, and earned the agrégation in economics and management, reflecting her interdisciplinary focus. She also holds an LL.M. in European Law from the College of Europe. She gained valuable policy experience and practical insights through placements at the European Central Bank/Single Supervisory Mechanism, at the Court of Justice of the European Union (General Court), and at the Research Centre of Saint-Cyr Military Schools.
