Graduate Law Mentorship Programme
Graduate Law Mentorship Programme

Registration is now open for our Graduate Law Mentorship Programme 2021

The School of Law and Government, the Alumni Office and the Careers Service are delighted to announce the launch of the 2021/ 2022 Graduate Law Mentorship Programme, which is running again this year, following the success of the previous years' programmes. It is DCU's first and only graduate to graduate mentorship programme. We are seeking alumni mentors and mentees.

The programme will run from September 2021 to April 2022, and in the current ongoing circumstances of COVID19, it is likely that the programme will take place in a primarily virtual format.

About the programme and network

Recent graduates will be matched with more senior law graduates (eg, trainee solicitor, solicitor, barrister, those employed elsewhere in the legal field, or those who have chosen alternative careers outside of law). The objective is to provide encouragement and support for graduates in considering/ planning next career steps - eg CV and interview advice, applications for internships/ traineeships, or guidance in seeking other alternative opportunities as law graduates. As a mentor, it is a rewarding opportunity to give back and offer any guidance, advice or insights, and to share your experience.

In addition to mentorship, the programme also facilitates various networking opportunities among DCU graduates, across the university and within the wider legal profession and elsewhere. Participants are invited to a number of social and career development events throughout the course of the programme.

Structure and time commitments

The duration of the programme is seven months (from September to April). It begins with an Opening Ceremony and concludes with a Closing Ceremony. The programme is flexible in terms of time commitments and means of communication, but participants are encouraged to meet (in person if possible or virtually via Skype or Zoom) at least three times. Participants can also liaise via email or phone, or whatever platform works best.

Mentor of the Year and Mentee of the Year

Participants will have the opportunity to nominate their Mentor or Mentee for the prestigious Mentor of the Year Award and Mentee of the Year Award.

The programme is open to all alumni with a background or interest in Law (and related areas), including BCL, EPL, JH, LLM and PhD.

Registration for the 2021/22 programme is now open and will close at 5pm on 20th September 2021.

The Opening Ceremony will take place via Zoom in late September/ early October [date to be confirmed]. Click here to Register.
