Dublin Law and Politics Review to hold Plastic Reduction Policies Seminar

Plastic is known to be harmful to the environment, what can we do to reduce the plastic? What challenges and opportunities are ahead? How will such policies impact business and what is the government doing to reduce plastic?

Speakers:

Dr Diarmuid Torney an Associate Professor in the School of Law and Government at DCU. Who holds an MPhil and DPhil (PhD) in International Relations from the University of Oxford, as well as BA and MA degrees from University College Dublin.

His research focuses on comparative and global politics of climate change, environment, and energy, particularly in Ireland, the European Union, China, and India. He is a Principal Investigator on two research projects funded by the Irish Environmental Protection Agency: Irish Climate Policy Evaluation and Citizens' Climate.

He is the author of European Climate Leadership in Question: Policies toward China and India (MIT Press, 2015) and co-editor of European Union External Environmental Policy: Rules, Regulation and Governance Beyond Borders (Palgrave, 2018). My research has also appeared in leading international peer reviewed academic journals, including Energy Policy, Environmental Politics, Global Environmental Politics, and Journal of Common Market Studies.He was involved in the establishment of DCU’s new MSc in Climate Change: Policy, Media and Society. Where he teaches courses on the politics of climate change and environment, public policy, and international relations theories at undergraduate and Master’s level.

Paul McDonald is a Principal Officer in the Waste Policy/Circular Economy Division with responsibility for policy relating to packaging and plastics, including transposition of the Single Use Plastics Directive and associated circular economy issues.
