Dr Vicky Conway appointed as member of the Policing Authority
Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan has appointed Dublin City University's School of Law and Government Associate Professor, Dr Vicky Conway, as a member of the Policing Authority, the agency that oversees the performance of An Garda Síochána. Paul Mageean, a member of the Human Rights Commission in Northern Ireland, is the other appointee confirmed by the government on Tuesday.
Dr Vicky Conway, has returned to the authority after being appointed by the Government to the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland in May 2017. As a member of the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland, Dr Conway contributed to a key report in which she, along with other 10 committee members, proposed sweeping reform of policing in Ireland.
Policing Authority Chairperson Josephine Feehily in a statement welcomed Dr. Conway's return to the Policing Authority. She said: “I am delighted to welcome two new Members to the Authority and in particular to welcome back Dr. Conway, who was previously a member of the Authority. They both bring a wealth of expertise and experience and I am confident that they will make a significant contribution to the important policing oversight work that the Authority will continue to perform over the coming years. “
Dr Conway and Mr Mageean will join their fellow Members at our next meeting in public with the Garda Commissioner on 24 February, the Policing Authority chairperson's statement added.
