DCU Dr Deiric Ó Broin nominated as the new chair of Pobal
Dr Deiric Ó Broin has been nominated as the new chair Pobal, an organisation which works on behalf of Government to support communities and local agencies toward achieving social inclusion and development. Dr Ó Broin is a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Law and Government in Dublin City University and lectures on the MSc in Public Policy.
Pobal, formerly known as Area Development Management, works on behalf of Government to support communities and local agencies toward achieving social inclusion and development. It was established in 1992 by the Irish Government in agreement with the European Commission to manage an EU Grant for local development.
According to the Joint Committee on Rural and Community Development of the Houses of the Oireachtas, Pobal disbursed €615 million directly to beneficiaries in 2017, up from €257 million in 2011.
