Re-Imaging Ethics and Research with Children

On 29th April 2024, DCU Anti-Bullying Centre hosted a symposium entitled "Re-Imaging Ethics and Research with Children" on DCUs All Hallows Campus. Academics and researchers from DCU Institute of Education and other DCU Faculties gathered with professionals from various external organisations to discuss evolving ethical issues faced when conducting research with children.

Professor Anne Looney, Executive Dean of the Institute of Education, opened the symposium and shared her hopes for what might be achieved arising from the event. DCU Anti-Bullying Centre postdoctoral researchers, Dr Sinan Asci, Dr Sayani Basak, Dr Maryam Esfandiari and Dr Megan Reynolds led the symposium and facilitated group discussions on how children can be supported, respected and included within research, in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Dr. Melrona Kirrane, Chair of DCU Research Ethics Committee, delivered a closing address on key ethical principles for researchers and the ethical process within DCU.
