Learner Voice in an Inclusive Framework
Dr Paula Flynn from the School of Inclusive and Special education was the invited keynote speaker at the ETBI 2018 Conference: Diversity and Inclusion in Education and Training: Respecting and Appreciating Difference. Paula presented on the topic, 'Learner Voice in an Inclusive Framework: Whose voices and why listen?'. Her presentation included an overview of perspectives of 'inclusion, and inclusive education' and argued that progressing our understanding of this concept is inextricably linked to listening to the voices of our learners and including them in decision making in schools and education discourse on a national level. Findings and implications from recent research conducted by Paula in the area of student/learner voice were presented as a new theoretical framework for Transformative Dialogue, within a 'Learner Voice Space', (Flynn, 2018).
