"India's growing global profile has highlighted a clear need for additional expertise on India in Ireland and across Europe. Over the past five years DCU has positioned itself as a university which is serious about engagement with, and supporting research on, India. Dr Schottli's appointment as Director, will further strengthen our ability to deliver on our ambition.
She brings an international reputation on Indian foreign policy and more than 10 years’ experience of working in India and in one of Europe's top centres of excellence in South Asia."
Building on the strong foundations laid by the previous Director, Professor Eileen Connolly, a group of dedicated early-career scholars and the continuous support of the university leadership, it remains a key goal of the Ireland India Institute to grow into a leading research hub that promotes academic collaboration between Europe and India.
In her new role as Director, Dr Schottli said:
“We will continue to strengthen research on India in DCU and build collaborative partnerships between Ireland and India, recognising that India is a rising international actor of economic and political importance. Research and teaching are pillars of academic life and my personal goal is to inspire students to take an interest in India and to engage with colleagues at DCU to work on India related research and with Indian scholars.
At the Institute we will also work towards providing a space for creative cultural and social engagement to promote understanding between India and Ireland building on their existing shared experiences.”
