Liam Ó Maonlaí Performs in St Patricks Campus, DCU
There will be a special performance by Liam Ó Maonlaí with his fellow Hot House Flower Peter O' Toole and guest musicians in the Auditorium of St Patrick's College on Friday April 8th at 8pm.
Tickets are €15/12 and can be purchased at https://macalla-liamomaonlai.eventbrite.ie or from the information desk of the Library on the St Patrick's Campus.
This performance is part of an amazing exhibition of glass sound objects by the glass sculptor Roísín de Buitléar entitled Macalla - Echo. It can be viewed in the Cregan Library on St Patrick's Campus from the 6th - 28th of April, Mon - Fri 10am - 6pm. Roísín de Buitléar is a pioneer in the field of contemporary glass in Ireland. This exhibition will include 25 individual glass sculptures, each having a particular sound or timbre when struck, blown or plucked. The sound, recorded and audible with the exhibition, is the unique result of Roisín’s collaboration with Liam Ó Maonlaí, drawing on the seductive qualities of de Buitléar’s glass work and their shared passion for Irish music and culture.
With a mix of traditional songs and their own folk-rock compositions, Ó Maonlaí and O' Toole showcase their peerless musicianship in this distinctive music event. Ó Maonlaí and O' Toole use breath and fingertips to bring de Buitléar's finely blown glass to percussive life, their extreme fragility contributing to the sound and tension of this extraordinary performance. The exhibition and performance is organised by GlasDrum in partnership with St Patrick's College and DCU. We would be delighted to see you at either or both events.
Details on the event are highlighted in RTÉ Arena programme radio (about 10 miinutes into the programme)
