Professor Colleen Murrell addresses UN International Media Seminar on Peace in Geneva

School of Communications professor speaks about the safety of journalists in conflict zones

Professor Colleen Murrell from the School of Communications at DCU has given an address at the UN International Media Seminar on Peace in the Middle East, held at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland today Friday, 1 November 2024.

Her speech addresses the vital importance of journalists in conflict zones, particularly in Gaza:

Journalism should be safe, and its practitioners should be safe-guarded. A journalist’s mission is to witness events and to share them. In this conflict they are shining a light on atrocities to make sure that the fate of the local population is known by the world outside the Gaza Strip.

A livestream of her address is available to view here on the UN website (starts at 01:17).
