New Mitchell Scholar Rabhya Mehrotra to study political communication at DCU
Rabhya Mehrotra, a dual-major Yale University student in Computer Science and Political Science, will join DCU next semester under the Mitchell Scholarship programme to study political communication in the university’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The Mitchell Scholarships, named to honour former US Senator George Mitchell's pivotal contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process, are designed to introduce and connect generations of future American leaders to the island of Ireland, while recognising and fostering intellectual achievement, leadership, and a commitment to community and public service.
DCU Mitchell Scholar Rabhya Mehrotra, a resident of Bethesda, Maryland, is currently a senior at Yale and is interested in exploring Ireland’s successful citizens’ assemblies and the burgeoning field of e-democracy in Europe. As part of her current studies, she is using natural language models to analyse Icelandic political discourse around the constitution. Rabhya’s interest in understanding how people create and deliberate opinions drove her activities at Yale. She served as Co-Opinion Editor at the Yale Daily News, creating the first independent Editorial Board. She also spent a gap semester reporting for the New Haven Independent.
