Welcome to DCU Languages Week!
Today (28th Feb) marks the first #DCULanguagesWeek supported by Languages Connect, to encourage secondary school students to pursue the languages they love at Leaving Cert level and onwards in university.
The exciting new initiative runs from 28th February until 3rd March 2022 with a combination of on-campus and virtual events giving students access to top language experts in the country in Chinese, French, German, Irish, Japanese and Spanish. The events are organised by DCU's School of Applied Languages and Intercultural Studies (SALIS) and Fiontar agus Scoil na Gaeilge.
Assistant Professor with DCU’s School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies (SALIS) Lucia Pintado Gutierrez, said: "This Languages Week allows second level students to get a sense of what it's like to learn languages at third level, explore different cultures and meet some fascinating experts and presenters.”
The first of our in-person lecture taster sessions takes place on our Glasnevin campus today at 3pm when students can take part in a spot of French speed dating and embark on a discovery of France and French culture. Meanwhile students interested in Japanese can learn more about a unique style of comedy in Japan called 'Manzai' at the first of our virtual workshops this week, taking place today at 4pm.
As if that's not enough, senior cycle students also have the chance to enter our fun 10-word short story competition in one of the languages taught at DCU and win a great prize!
