Exploring Information Retrieval Challenges in IoT and WoT: A Multi-Dimensional Taxonomy Framework

A research paper has been released on Information Retrieval for IoT and WoT, and the challenges facing it, has been published. Dr Annalina Caputo, from the DCU School of Computing, worked on this compelling research paper alongside two researchers from the University of Granada; Dr Cristyan Manta-Caro and Dr Juan M. Fernández-Luna.

This research paper investigates the challenges of Information Retrieval (IR) within the evolving landscapes of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Web of Things (WoT), where traditional IR struggles due to the vast amount and diversity of data. The researchers propose a multi-dimensional taxonomy framework to address this issue, which serves to classify and analyse existing IR approaches within these environments.

The research examines traditional IR sub-tasks like indexing, querying, ranking, and crawling in the context of IoT and WoT, identifying challenges and posing open research questions. It surveys existing search engines, taxonomies, and evaluation frameworks for IoT and WoT, providing a holistic view of the field. Ultimately, the paper aims to guide future advancements in IR techniques specifically tailored to the intricate search demands of the IoT and WoT cyber-world.
