The School of Computing is delighted to announce the recipients of two prestigious awards: the Rory V. O’Connor Award and the Tony Moynihan Award for the 2023/24 academic year. The Rory V. O'Connor Award is granted to the undergraduate student with the highest overall mark in final year. This distinguished award serves as a testament to the recipient's exceptional academic prowess and commitment to excellence. The Tony Moynihan Award, is bestowed upon Computer Applications students with the highest overall marks in the CA400 Final Year Project module.

The Rory V O'Connor Award holds great significance as it is named in honour of the esteemed Prof Rory O'Connor, who sadly passed away in July 2019. Rory's exemplary leadership during his nearly 6-year tenure as Head of the DCU School of Computing has solidified his legacy in academia. This prestigious award serves to commemorate not only Rory's dedication and commitment to education but also his unwavering support for colleagues and students alike, especially during challenging times. Moreover, it showcases his lifelong passion for bridging the gap between individuals and technology.

The Rory V. O'Connor Award for the undergraduate student with the highest overall mark in final year is a remarkable achievement, and we are proud to announce that this year's recipient is Bartolomiej Pakula (BSc in Computing for Business) a dedicated student whose commitment to excellence is clearly reflected in his exceptional academic achievements.

The second award presented was established in remembrance of the esteemed Prof Tony Moynihan, a distinguished Professor and former Head of the School of Computing. This award serves as a tribute to his legacy and contribution to the field. Prof. Tony Moynihan's dedication to Computer Science and his tireless efforts in advancing the discipline are now commemorated through this prestigious accolade.

Amidst fierce competition and a remarkable display of talent and innovation, we are proud to present Effa Issa Faqir Al Bulushi (BSc in Computer Science) and Okikiola Sanni (BSc in Computer Science) as the deserving recipients of the Tony Moynihan Award. These remarkable 4th-year Computer Applications students have consistently showcased their impressive dedication, expertise, and academic prowess during their final year project. Their outstanding work has garnered admiration from both peers and professors, clearly highlighting their pursuit of excellence.

“The School of Computing was delighted to present Bartolomiej Pakula with the Rory O'Connor award for the highest mark in their final year. Bartolomiej was the first student from the Computing for Business program to win this prestigious award. Okikiola Sanni and Effa Issa Al Bulushi from the Computer Science program won the Tony Moynihan award for the students with the highest mark for their final year project. This was an outstanding achievement as there was extreme competition from many other projects. It goes without saying that both of these great achievements came with the support of many family and friends, who should also take some credit.”
