Another Successful Expo For the Final Year Computing and Engineering Students

It might have been an 8am start and it was fairly cold outside, but it didn’t stop employers arriving early to make sure they got to meet DCU’s Computing and Engineering final year students.  The Helix was definitely buzzing with visiting employers from dozens of different companies.  This year President of DCU, Prof. Brian Mac Craith thanked SAP for yet again continued sponsorship of the event and to the many companies who sponsored numerous student prizes.  It was interesting to see this year, SAP’s key note speaker was Aisling Mulholland a previous Computer Applications graduate who spoke of her fond memories in DCU and how she has implemented her learnings into the working world of SAP.

 Following the Helix it was over to view the student project demos.  Close to 200 students and over 167 projects on display, there was plenty to see.  Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Computing, Prof. Barry McMullin complimented the students “Each year these students continue to bring new ideas, more innovation and greater opportunities, their ongoing work and talent seems endless.  Employers are interacting with these students and see fantastic potential in so many of them”. 

 This year, projects ranged from various mobile/web apps, beet washer automation, e-learning technology,  basketball shot tracking devices and green powered vehicles.  The list goes on.  The event continued to buzz well into lunchtime.  For a full list of projects visit http://www.computing.dcu.ie/fyp/booklet.pdf
