OPENET to support Computing at DCU
Openet, one of the largest privately-owned software companies in Ireland, has agreed to provide essential funding to DCU to strengthen academic resources within the School of Computing.
A significant number of Openet staff are DCU graduates, according to Joe Hogan, a proud graduate himself of DCU's BSc in Computer Applications (1989),
“Openet has long recognised the calibre of graduates produced by DCU, particularly from the School of Computing, and more recently we have been working to strengthen the relationship links between Openet and the university. We are keen for DCU students to view Openet as an employer of choice when they graduate.”
The ambition and vision of Openet’s senior team, including Founder and CTO Joe Hogan and CEO Niall Norton, have been essential to the organisation’s continued success and established presence within the industry. Over the years, Openet has extended its global reach, with more than 80 customers in 32 countries and now has a workforce of more than 830 people globally with offices in the US, Malaysia and Brazil. The company is currently looking at expanding their presence in emerging markets including Canada and Mexico.
DCU President, Professor Brian MacCraith, expressed his gratitude to Openet for this invaluable support,
“DCU has an excellent reputation for its computing graduates, and this donation will enable the School to invest in critical academic support and help us to maintain our leading edge reputation, to the benefit of our students, and ultimately, companies like Openet who go on to hire them as employees.”
About Openet
Founded during the Celtic Tiger era, Openet benefited from the wave of economic success in Ireland at the time and parlayed into a global technology company with innovative software and an extensive pool of talented staff members. Openet software now enables the world's largest network operators to innovate service offerings in an increasingly mobile, data-driven society. Openet entered the telecommunications industry with high performance software that enabled network operators to more efficiently and flexibly harness the “big data” generated across large, heterogeneous networks. Their performance innovations still lead the industry, easily processing more than 10 billion daily network transaction records at a single network operator. Openet is truly an international company with over 99 percent of revenues coming from outside of Ireland. This success and growth has made Openet the largest privately-owned technology company in Ireland.
