Additive Manufacturing
The objectives of this microcredential are to enable participants to understand the basic and advanced knowledge about Additive Manufacturing (AM) process. The microcredential covers major AM techniques for metal, polymer and ceramics. Participants will acquire in-depth knowledge of the design process, covering everything from conceptualization to creating part designs tailored for a specific material and additive manufacturing (AM) process. Development of new materials for AM, production of composites and multi-material via 3D printing, and sustainability of AM processes will be covered. Participants will gain insights into techniques for in-situ monitoring, data analysis, process control and health and safety issues. In addition, introduction to modelling of AM processes will be covered. The participants will learn about the part topology and design optimization using the latest software (SOLIDWORKS Topology Optimization and Live Parts™).
1. Critique the differences in Additive Manufacturing according to technique and material class
2. Develop and optimise Additive Manufacturing techniques for new materials, composites and multi-material parts
3. Construct basic models of Additive Manufacturing processes to understand material evolution during the Additive Manufacturing process and prediction of the final part properties.
4. Develop the design for Additive Manufacturing method to optimise the topology, functional performance and product life considerations including manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
5. Formulate design of experiments for built part characterization for process control.
6. Critique health and safety impacts, requirements and compliance.
A Primary Honours degree, Level 8 in Electronic/Electrical/Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, Computer Sciences or other Cognate/Engineering Disciplines. Applications are also invited from diverse educational and/or employment backgrounds, with applications evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
And also to indicate the required documentation:
- Please provide Academic Transcripts for final year of study where appropriate (English translation)
- All applicants must submit a copy of their passport
There is no availability for a deferred entry onto a micro-credential.
If applicable, evidence of competence in the English language as per DCU entry requirements. Please see here.
