Abid Yaqoob Wins IEEE Best Student Paper Award 2020
Amidst the myriad uncertainties and challenges posed by the continuing pandemic, The School of Electronic Engineering was heartened by the news that postdoctoral researcher Abid Yaqoob has scooped the IEEE BMSB 2020 Best Student Paper Award, presented as part of the virtual IEEE International Symposium on Broadband Multimedia Systems and Broadcasting.
Abid’s paper, a collaboration with Professor Gabriel-Miro Muntean, is entitled ‘A Weighted Tile Approach for DASH-based Viewport Adaptive 360 Video Streaming’ and is further evidence of his exceptional work in the area of omnidirectional video delivery.
Reacting to the news of the award, Head of the School of Electronic Engineering Jennifer Bruton said "We are delighted that the achievement of our research student and his supervisor has been recognised at an international and prestigious level. I warmly congratulate Abid and hope that this is the first of many such accolades for him."
