Sports Clubs are the heartbeat of student sport at DCU, and provide opportunities for students to get involved in sport. Our sports clubs cater for the competitive sportsperson with aspirations to represent DCU in intervarsity, national and international competitions, as well as beginners and recreational participants. DCU sports clubs are student-run and student-led so you can play your sport and also lead and develop your club. DCU has 37 sports clubs with more than 5,000 members.

DCU Badminton Club is one of the university’s biggest clubs, with a diverse range of members of all standards. The club competes in the Dublin District Leagues and Cups, the Student Sport Ireland/Badminton Ireland Colleges Leagues, the Intervarsity and other student tournaments. DCU Boxing Club is open to all skill levels, from novice to elite boxers. The club participates in the Irish Athletic Third-Level Boxing Association (IATBA) Intervarsity, Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) events and tournaments both in Ireland and internationally.
With a purpose-built boxing ring on DCU’s Glasnevin Campus and access to top-level coaching, the club has a history of producing high-calibre athletes, including Jennifer Lehane, a current member who began her boxing journey at DCU and went on to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Whether you're looking to build serious fitness or refine your skills in one of the toughest sports, DCU Boxing Club offers a supportive environment for everyone. Experienced boxers can further hone their craft with top-class coaching and competitive sparring opportunities.

DCU Judo Club welcomes fighters of all levels, from beginners to experienced practitioners. Judo offers a fun and safe way to exercise while learning self-defence techniques. As well as building a strong foundation of techniques and strength for all fighters in the club, the club plans to enter national Judo Intervarsity competitions.
The club is also planning to enable experienced players to get coaching qualifications. Practising judo not only enhances your physical fitness but also teaches you how to safely fall and introduces you to a rich history of fighting techniques that date back centuries. Volleyball is a dynamic, team-oriented sport. The games are both extremely skilful and fast, resulting in lots of fun and action on the court. DCU Volleyball Club competes in several competitions during the academic year: the Student Sport Ireland League, the Intervarsity and the Beach Volleyball competitions.

DCU Weightlifting Club is in its tenth year of existence and has already claimed University and National Olympic weightlifting titles. The club is continually growing and expanding with a training base at DCU’s High-Performance Gym and House 19 in the Sports Complex.

Our primary goal each year is to enhance our fitness on the bike while representing the university in national and international races. Join DCU Canoe Club if you're a fan of water, good times and making plenty of friends! The club caters to all abilities, from first-timers to seasoned paddlers. DCU Caving Club provides a safe and enjoyable way of learning this exciting sport – an adventure sport like no other. Caving is the exploration of all kinds of naturally formed underground passages, from colossal chambers and deep chasms to tight rifts.
Some people cave just to see the beautiful underground formations; some like to study the geology of the caves (speleologists); others do it for the adventure of overcoming the challenges posed in an underground environment.
You can enjoy the challenge of overcoming obstacles, learn rope climbing and abseiling skills, enjoy the beautiful formations inside the caves and explore where few others have gone before. The club caters for novices and more advanced cavers.

The club offers weekly training throughout the year, combining gym workouts at the DCU Sports Complex with on-water sessions at Neptune Rowing Club. The club competes in the University Rowing Championships, featuring categories for both novices and experienced rowers.

DCU Sub-Aqua Club provides a relaxed and supportive environment in which you can learn to scuba dive, snorkel or play underwater hockey. The club provides training for all skill levels and abilities, and you can learn at a relaxed pace with qualified Diving Ireland instructors.
We provide a complete training package to both snorkelers and divers. You’ll train for your first diving qualification (CMAS 1 star qualification – Trainee Diver) over the autumn and winter months. This is done primarily in the pool, giving you the opportunity to build your skill and confidence in the water. You’ll also attend a series of lectures that will teach you diving theory. Come March, you’ll be ready to take the plunge into the sea.

DCU Surf'n'Sail Club is one of the biggest and best clubs in DCU and focuses on both sailing and surfing. The club welcomes new and experienced sailors to join the sailing team. It trains weekly at the Royal St George Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire and competes in four Intervarsity team racing events yearly in some of Ireland's most scenic locations. The club also participates in the Student Yachting Nationals.
The club organises four surf trips a year to the best surf spots in Ireland. It also organises events throughout the year, including pub quizzes, music bingo, beach cleans and the annual Christmas swim. The club has a close-knit community and great interclub relations with other clubs and societies at DCU. Joining will be the best decision you make this year!

DCU Swimming Club has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of years, with competitive teams getting bigger and performing better than ever.
The club caters for beginners and has weekly group swimming lessons for members. All classes and coaching sessions are conducted by fully qualified Level-2 swim teachers/coaches. These classes are available for all club members who aren’t yet at the skill level to join the coaching squad (minimum 200m freestyle swimming), or for people who just want to get involved in the water. If you’re someone who wants to learn how to swim, or if you want to enhance your swimming performance and compete for DCU while having fun, this is the club for you!

Camogie is one of five sports offered by the DCU Dóchas Éireann GAA Club and has seen significant success in recent years, notably winning the prestigious Ashbourne Cup for the first time in the college's history in 2022. The club provides a welcoming environment for players of all skill levels, from experienced Inter-County hurlers to complete beginners. It offers a variety of opportunities in playing, coaching, administration, refereeing and performance analysis.
Members have the opportunity to play on three different teams – the Ashbourne Cup, Fr Meaghair Cup and Uí Mhaolagáin Cup. The club is dedicated to promoting the sport across all campuses and encourages students to get involved at any level.

Gaelic Football is one of five sports available as part of the DCU Dóchas Éireann GAA Club. Our Men’s Gaelic Football Club has had huge success in recent years, winning titles at various levels and is one of the largest yet most welcoming clubs on campus. The club promotes the sport of Gaelic football to all students across all campuses and caters for playing levels from Inter-County players to people wishing to start the game for the first time. It offers playing, coaching, administration, refereeing and performance analysis opportunities for students.
The club has ten teams including playing opportunities for first years for five teams at A, B, and C levels. For second years and beyond, there are five more teams available from Sigerson to Junior level the following teams are available: Sigerson Cup, Intermediate (GLA), Intermediate (SPC), Junior (GLA) and Junior (SPC).

The handball club is part of DCU Dóchas Éireann GAA Club. DCU Handball Club caters for all, from experienced handball players and those who wish to take up handball for the first time.
The club trains in the 40x20 handball alley and One Wall in the DCU Sports Complex. It competes in the Irish Colleges Handball Association competitions and the USA Team Handball College National Championships (USHA). There is an opportunity every year to represent DCU in America.

How to join
It costs €4 to join each Club or Society. Below are the ways in which you can join:
1. Online: Club or Society Website
You can join a DCU club or society online at any time during the year by visiting the DCU club and society webpages at www.dcuclubsandsocs.ie
2. In-person: DCU Clubs & Socs Days
You can join a DCU club or society at the annual DCU Clubs & Socs Days which are held in semesters 1 and 2. All clubs and societies will have stands and information on their programme of activities for the year.
Start a new sports club
Have an idea for a new sports club? We’d love to hear from you! DCU Sport provides guidance and support to help turn your idea into a thriving club. To get started, you’ll need:
- At least 20 interested members
- A constitution outlining your club’s purpose and structure (template is available)
- A short plan detailing your proposed activities
Once you have these, submit your proposal to the DCU Club Life Committee (CLC) at clubsandsocs@dcu.ie. The CLC, which oversees all DCU clubs, will review and approve new club applications. Let's bring your idea to life!
