DCU Gaelic Games Championship Winning Teams
It was a great day on Easter Monday, in the sun outside Albert College where we were able to recognise the achievements of our six Championship winning Gaelic Games teams and our three league winning teams. As is tradition, the Championship winning teams got their official team photographs in their embroidered DCU Dóchas Éireann jerseys.
The photos are also replicated in the home club jerseys of the students. This is in recognition of the sheer volume of work that clubs up and down the country are investing in people in their community and we feel it is really important that these big and small clubs are acknowledged when an All Ireland medal is coming back to them. A total of 137 clubs from across 23 different counties have All Ireland Championship medals going back to them. A huge spread of clubs with many clubs like, Westport in Mayo, Shamrock Gaels in Sligo, Crosserlough in Cavan, St Oliver Plunketts in Dublin and Ballinamore Sean O’Helsins in Leitirm having multiple medals going to them.
The six Championship winning teams were the Sigerson, Junior and Fresher C on the Men’s Football side, while on the Ladies Football side there was the O’Connor, Moynihan and HEC side. While there were also the three league winning teams, the O’Connor making it a double and the Fresher B and Intermediate Football sides also landing league trophies in semester one.
A huge thanks and well done to all of the management team who were celebrated during the day and acknowledged with gifts too. It was great to have so many students with great coaching potential driving the many teams.
Thanks as ever to the support from Daire Keogh, who was present for the full day of photos and his ongoing desire to ensure the student experience in DCU is a positive one. Thanks to Kyran O’Brien and Mark Forde who helped capture the day with photos and video.
