DCU Dominates at IUAA Intervarsity Championships 2025

DCU Athletics once again proved its dominance on the national stage by storming to victory at the 2025 IUAA Intervarsity Track and Field Championships, hosted in Morton Stadium on April 11th and 12th. In front of a home crowd, DCU athletes delivered outstanding performances across the board, securing the Overall Team title, Women’s Team title, and the coveted Distance Team Trophy.

Strong Team Performances

DCU topped the overall team standings with a massive 233 points—126 from the women’s team and 107 from the men’s team—comfortably ahead of UL (216) and UCD (118). This comprehensive victory showcased the strength and depth of DCU’s squad, with athletes stepping up across sprints, distance events, jumps, throws, and relays.

The women’s team were particularly dominant, amassing the highest female point total of the meet. From throws to relays, their consistency and competitiveness laid the foundation for the overall win. Meanwhile, the men’s team delivered clutch performances in the sprint and middle-distance events to secure vital points in a tightly contested battle with UL.

DCU also swept the Distance Trophy, thanks to superb performances in events ranging from the 1500m to the 10,000m, as well as strong showings in the 3000m Walk and steeplechase.

Varsity Records Tumble

In a meet full of fireworks, several DCU athletes etched their names into the university's history books with new varsity records:

  • Michael Farrelly lit up the track in the men’s 100m, clocking a blazing 10.65 seconds.
  • Matthew Glennon broke his own DCU varsity record in the 3000m Walk, finishing in an incredible 11:45.69.
  • Michael Murphy delivered a masterclass in distance running, finishing fourth in the 5000m in a record time of 14:18.04.
  • In the field, Conor Callinan soared to 4.45m in the Pole Vault, setting a new DCU best.
  • Anna Gavigan continued her dominance in the Discus, extending her own varsity record with another stellar throw.
  • The Mixed 4x400m Relay Team set a new DCU record of 3:39.65 in a thrilling race.

Medal Tally Highlights

DCU led the medal count in the men’s category with 15 medals (7 gold, 4 silver, 4 bronze), sharing the top spot with UL. On the women’s side, DCU took home 17 medals (5 gold, 8 silver, 4 bronze), the highest total of any university, underscoring their consistency and elite performances across all disciplines.

Looking Ahead

This year’s championships not only reaffirmed DCU’s status as Ireland’s premier university athletics program but also showcased the rising talent and commitment across both squads. The home advantage was embraced rather than relied upon—athletes delivered when it mattered most.

Congratulations to all DCU athletes, coaches, and support staff on a truly exceptional weekend. The legacy continues, and the future looks brighter than ever.
