CHRCE Members Attend ANGEL Conference
Six members of the Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education, DCU presented at the ANGEL Conference in UNESCO headquarters in Paris June 19th-20th, 2023. The conference was organised by the Academic Network of Global Education and Learning (ANGEL) in partnership with UNESCO, with the cooperation of Global Education Network Europe (GENE), IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education & Society, and the UNESCO Chair in GCED in Higher Education, based at the University of Bologna. The conference brought together academics, researchers, educators and policy makers from around the world for two days exploring new developments, debates and research around education for sustainable development and global citizenship.
Ben Mallon and Aisling Twohill presented on the integration of global citizenship and maths education. Anne Marie Kavanagh presented on her research, with Caitríona Ní Cassaithe, exploring the use of indigenous stories and knowledge systems to promote climate action in primary classrooms. Rowan Oberman presented her research looking at positive emotions in climate change education. Audrey Bryan presented her discourse analysis of UNESCO's Futures of Education report. Gabriela Martinez Sainz presented her PLANS framework for global citizenship education. The conference had an extremely high rate of submissions, and it was a huge achievement by the Centre that so many members presented.
