Mater Dei Institute of Education Class of 1984 Celebrates 40th Reunion
Graduates from the 1984 Class of the Mater Dei Institute of Education celebrated their 40th Anniversary Reunion on Saturday.
The classmates gathered on St Patrick's campus for a drinks reception, Aifreann sa Séipeal and an evening dinner to reminisce and reconnect, most not having seen each other in the 40 years since graduating.
Among the graduates was Prof. Anne Looney, Executive Dean at the Institute of Education, who helped bring the classmates together for the event.
The graduates originally studied at the Mater Dei Institute of Education in Drumcondra on the former site of Clonliffe College. When the Institute, which became a linked college of DCU in 1999, was closed in 2016 it became incorporated into the DCU Institute of Education. As part of their campus tour, the reunion group was able to visit the Mater Dei Centre for Catholic Education which continues the Institute's mission on the St Patrick's Campus.
At Mass, in Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Chapel, they were welcomed by DCU President Prof. Dáire Keogh and a candle was lit to remember those classmates in ill health or who had passed.
After Mass, the group sat down to a wonderful dinner to continue their reminiscing.
