Class of 1974 50th Anniversary
The St Patrick’s Class of 1974 returned to campus to celebrate their 50th Anniversary Reunion, in what was DCU’s largest alumni reunion event ever.
140 alumni and class guests gathered for an afternoon of celebrations, rekindled memories, and to remember those classmates no longer with us.
After registration where old friends greeted each other before collecting their reunion booklets, the group made their way to the St Patrick’s Chapel for Mass.
DCU President Prof. Daire Keogh welcomed the class to the event, before a service conducted by Mgr. Lorcan O’Brien. The event was interspersed with contributions from the Class Choir and the names of those alumni who had passed were read out to be remembered. The Mass was closed out by Director of Alumni Relations Ross Munnelly and Executive Dean Prof Anne Looney.
Following Mass, the group were led out to the steps of Cregan Library, a new addition to the campus since their graduation, for a wonderful and historic group shot. It was then onto a drinks reception with background music and a chance to explore more of the campus, including their former library which was opened up for the event and brought back many memories for those who took a peek inside.
It was then time for evening dinner to close out a day of wonderful celebrations and memories with many choosing to stay overnight on campus to keep the reunion atmosphere going for that little bit longer.
The DCU Alumni Office would like to particularly thank the Reunion organising committee of Dan O’Connor, Joe Johnston, Helen Synott, Colm Jackson, Colm McGlade, Nuala O’Driscoll, Henry Thynne, John Tuohy, Gerard McHugh, and Tony Banville for their help in making this, our largest ever reunion event, such a wonderful and successful occasion and the catering and security team at DCU St Patrick’s campus for helping the event go smoothly.
