A bus tour with local tour guide, Yeats scholar, archaeologist and teacher Martin Enright, took us to historical sites including places that inspired the poetry and paintings of the Yeats brothers - W.B and Jack.
Places included the Holy Well of Tobernalt, Carrow Passage Cemetery, Rosses Point, Glencar Valley and Drumcliffe Churchyard, where W.B Yeats is buried.
The history and importance of the sites were described comprehensively by Martin with apt quotations from Yeats’s poetry and references to places that inspired paintings by Jack. B.Yeats.
Later we were treated to a fine dinner and entertainment provided by our classmates which included lively music, singing and recitations.
Buíochas don choiste eagraithe, d’fhoireann an óstáin agus do Mháirtín ár dtreoraí.
With thanks to Jimmy Kavanagh for providing such a lovely recounting of their time!
