DCU Graduate to Student Mentorship Closing Ceremony
The DCU Graduate to Student Mentorship Programme celebrated its Closing Ceremony on Tuesday, a programme that speaks to the outstanding commitment of our alumni to support the DCU student experience.
Nearly 250 alumni applied to the award-winning programme, a collaboration between DCU Alumni Relations and DCU Careers service, and over 170 were successfully matched with a student mentee.
The alumni mentors came from a range of industries from beauty to banking, aviation to AI and some took on more than one mentee or stepped in to offer work shadow days to other mentees when their own mentors were not able to, showing great peer support.
We thank Ciara Cronin, herself a former Mentor of the Year who championed the support of alumni Mentors through the Open Office Hours sessions, providing regular mentor check in and discussion.
After a specially recorded message from DCU President Prof Dáire Keogh and welcomes from DCU Careers and DCU Alumni, this year's Mentor of the Year was awarded to Jason McCormac. Jason is a 2006 Bachelor of Engineering and a Partner in Deloitte’s Cloud & Engineering practice. He was put forward for the award by his mentee James Prestage, who collected Jason's award on his behalf, with these words:
“As a mentor Jason was professional, intelligent, engaging and interested. As a person he is supportive, encouraging, challenging and inspirational. I would be delighted if he were to win the 2024 Mentor of the Year as he is the perfect example of what a mentor should be.”
Congratulations also to Elizabeth O'Connor whose mentee Oliwia Piesiak was awarded Mentee of the Year and spoke so highly of Elizabeth and the experience of being mentored by her.
Make sure you have updated your details with us to be alerted when Mentor applications open for 2024.
Congratulations again to all our Mentors and to Jason!
